立ち寄っていただきありがとうございます！私はヌーラボのソフトウェアエンジニア、スレマンです。入社して数ヶ月後、私は社内製品の改善だけでなく、当社の英語能力向上への取り組みを支援することにも尽力しました。そのために、私は「Eigo cafe（英語カフェ）」を始めました。Eigo cafeは、さまざまなバックグラウンドや英語レベルを持つヌーラバーに、非公式な環境で英語を練習する機会を提供するクラブです。
カフェは通常、「Rose, Bud, Thorn（バラ、つぼみ、とげ）」というエクササイズから始まります。このオープニングのアイスブレイクでは、人生でうまくいっていること（バラ）、楽しみにしていること（つぼみ）、少し困難に感じていること（とげ）を共有します。このアイスブレイクの狙いは、カフェの間、すべてのメンバーに少なくとも一度は話す機会を与えることです。テーマによっては全員が参加するのが難しい場合もありますが、この方法なら、自分自身について共有することで会話に貢献できます。多くの場合、話し手は、与えられたトピックについて議論するよりも、自分にとって個人的なトピックについて話す方が簡単だと感じるようです。
アイスブレイクの後、カフェのメインテーマに移ります。前回のEigo cafeでは、私はアメリカの人気クイズ番組「ファミリー・フュード」を模倣した英語学習ツールを開発しました。ファミリー・フュードでは、ユーザーはアンケートからのトピックを提示され、出場者はそのアンケートで最も人気のある回答を推測しなければなりません。
別のカフェでは、AIが私たちのワークフローにどのような影響を与えたか、それが改善されたのか、それとも物事を難しくしたのかについて、オープンディスカッションを行いました。そのカフェでのディスカッションで、私のお気に入りの質問は、「AIがあなたよりも上手くできないことを3つ説明してください」というものでした。AIの時代において、LLM（大規模言語モデル）が単なるツールであり、私たちの創造性、柔軟性、個性を置き換えることはできないということを忘れがちだと感じています。

Thanks for stopping by! I’m Sulaymane, a software Engineer at Nulab. A few months after I joined the company, I was committed to not only improving our in house products, but to help support our company’s English proficiency initiatives. To that end, I began the Eigo cafe. The Eigo cafe is a club that provides Nulabbers from various backgrounds and English levels with the opportunity to practice their English in an informal setting.
The cafe normally begins with an exercise called “Rose, Bud, Thorn.” During that opening ice breaker, we share things that have been going well in our lives (rose), things that we are looking forward to (bud), and things that have been giving us a bit of difficulty (thorn). The idea behind this ice breaker is to give every member a chance to speak at least once during the cafe. Some topics may be difficult for every member to participate in, but at least this way they can contribute to the conversation by sharing things about themselves. Often speakers may find it easiest to talk about topics that are more personal to them, rather than being given a topic to discuss.
After the ice breaker, we move on to the main theme of the cafe. At the last Eigo cafe, I developed an English learning tool which mimics a popular game show in America called “Family feud”. During family feud, users will be prompted with a topic from a survey, and contestants will have to guess the most popular responses from the survey.
At another cafe, we had an open discussion regarding how Ai has affected our workflow, whether it improved it or made things more difficult. From that cafe, this was my favorite discussion prompt: “Describe 3 things that AI cannot perform better than you”. In the age of AI, I feel that it’s easy to forget that LLMs are simply tools, and they can’t replace our creativity, flexibility, nor personality.
