Collaborate in real-time with Backlog’s new online document editor

For over a decade, Backlog has helped teams stay organized, and, as work evolves, so do the tools we need. Today, with remote work and digital collaboration becoming the norm, managing documents across multiple platforms has become a major challenge.

This is why we’re so excited to introduce Backlog’s new online document editor, a seamless solution for creating, editing, and collaborating on documents in real time — all within Backlog. No more switching tools or losing track of versions. Whether you’re drafting plans or capturing meeting notes, everything happens in one place.

This feature is an integral step in our vision to make Backlog the ultimate project management tool. We can’t wait to see how teams use it and look forward to hearing your feedback as we continue to improve and integrate new capabilities.

What is the Document feature?

The Document Feature lets you and your team create and edit documents in real time — just like in Google Docs — but all within Backlog. No more juggling between platforms or searching for the latest version of a document. Now, everything stays in one place, making your workflow smoother and more efficient.

Using this new feature, teams can work together on rich-text documents, supporting simultaneous edits from up to 12 users at a time. Whether you’re capturing meeting notes or drafting a project plan, you can edit collaboratively, helping work move faster and smoother without any disruptions.

Key features

Let’s take a look at what makes the Document feature so powerful and how you can start using it:

  1. Real-time simultaneous editing
Up to 12 people can edit a document at the same time, making teamwork easier. Imagine drafting a meeting report with your team—all members can input their updates simultaneously, reducing time spent on back-and-forth revisions.
  2. Rich text for intuitive editing
With customizable options for text size, color, fonts, and more, rich-text formatting lets you edit documents while viewing the final output. This feature ensures your content not only reads well but looks professional.
  3. Edit history management
Keep track of every change with version control. You’ll have a detailed history of all edits, and you can easily revert to previous versions or compare different iterations of your document to monitor progress.
  4. Comment management
Streamline communication with in-document commenting. Users can leave feedback, ask questions, or suggest changes directly within the document. Comments are also interactive, allowing for replies and status updates, helping teams resolve issues more efficiently.
  5. Side menu for easy organization
The side menu provides a clear, tree-structured view of all your documents, allowing for quick navigation. You can organize documents hierarchically and rearrange them with drag-and-drop functionality, keeping everything in order.

Why you’ll love the Document feature

The Documents feature opens up a variety of collaborative opportunities for teams:

  • Meeting minutes: Capture and edit meeting notes in real time, ensuring accuracy with input from all attendees.
  • Project documentation: Collaborate on project documentation to enhance clarity and reduce miscommunication among team members.
  • Feedback and revisions: Facilitate a streamlined review process by drafting documents and incorporating feedback through comments.
  • Knowledge sharing: Maintain up-to-date best practices and training materials collaboratively, ensuring everyone has access to the latest information.
  • Brainstorming sessions: Document ideas and suggestions live during brainstorming sessions, making it easy to compile and refine concepts.

These use cases highlight the versatility of the Documents feature, empowering teams to work more effectively together.

How to set it up

The Document feature is available to users across Backlog’s plans, however, the number of documents and simultaneous editors may vary depending on the plan you’re using. For full details on limits and access, visit the Nulab Help Center.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to improve this feature and add new capabilities. In the meantime, we hope the Document feature helps your team collaborate more effectively and manage content seamlessly!
