Typetalk adds new protections to prevent online tracking

When it comes to the internet these days, users are starting to prioritize privacy and data protection over all else. And as a cloud-based app, Typetalk strives to do all we can to keep you secure when using our app. And that includes protecting your data from unwanted online trackers.

Online tracking and Typetalk

Recently, Firefox released their Enhanced Tracking Protection for desktop to detect and block trackers around the web trying to collect information about your browsing habits and interests. The Firefox browser will now notify users of any detected trackers with a popup. When blocked, an icon displays in the address bar.

To ensure that Typetalk doesn’t allow for any sort of tracking issues, we have made the following changes:

  • Access to all external images shown inline are no longer tracked via Typetalk
  • We’ve stopped using iframe on Twitter, SlideShare, and Speaker Deck to prevent tracking
  • Youtube embeds are not tracked thanks to the untracked www.youtube-nocookie.com domain

Please note: Backlog, Cacoo, Youtube and SoundCloud will continue to use iframe

What to expect

While these steps will certainly help keep your privacy more protected online, there are some small downsides: You may notice that you can no longer perform some of the same operations on sites embedded within Typetalk. But, we think this is a small price to pay for greater peace of mind when using our app.

Nulab Inc, the creators of Typetalk, is dedicated to protecting its users with efforts like supporting GDPR. And we’ll continue to do so in the future.
