Update: We’re discontinuing Backlog’s old Gantt chart
In November, we introduced Backlog’s new Gantt chart to make project planning easier, faster, and more intuitive. Since then, many teams have made the switch and are already seeing the benefits. Now, we’re ready to take the next step. Starting March 19th, the old Gantt chart will be officially retired, and the new Gantt chart will become the default view for all users.
If you’re still using the old Gantt chart, there’s no need to worry—you won’t lose any of your work. All of your projects, tasks, and deadlines will remain exactly where they are and will automatically appear in the new Gantt chart without any extra effort on your part.
What makes the new Gantt chart better
One of the first things users notice is how intuitive the new Gantt chart is. We’ve made it easier to adjust task timelines, update details, share comments, and assign tasks—all without leaving the chart. Everything you need to manage your project is right where you expect it to be.
Performance has also been a major focus. The new Gantt chart loads faster and handles larger projects with ease. If you’ve ever struggled with delays or lag when managing complex projects, you’ll appreciate how much quicker everything feels.
Task management has also been upgraded. You can now make updates directly from the Gantt chart view, so you’re not jumping back and forth between screens. It’s easier to keep everyone aligned and ensure that deadlines are met.
What to expect on March 19, 2025
Starting on March 19th, when you open a Gantt chart in Backlog, you’ll be automatically directed to the new version. The old Gantt chart will no longer be available, and all projects will use the new Gantt chart moving forward.
If you’ve already switched over, there’s nothing you need to do—just keep working as usual. If you’re still using the old version, you’ll be able to pick up right where you left off, but with all the improvements that come with the new experience.
